| I've never played a warlock at 70, but from grouping with them the best type of warlock's I have found are the ones who are destruction and they sacrfice their pets |

| What Inter is talking about is a 40 point destruction spec with 21 points in demonology for sacrifice. Depending on your gear you would probably still want to focus on the shadow part of destruction, although imo fire does more damage. However, if you have tailoring epics and not so much spell crit chance from your affliction days you wont do that much as a fire warlock, at least initially. And the shadowbolts crit so damn nicely :p An alternative spec is 40 demonology for the talents that make you and the pet better (which gives you 15% damage with succy active and 5% more crit chance and lots of other buffs). You also get your pet's sta and int as a bonus to spell damage, so depending on how much sta and int you have yourself this build can actually be stronger than the pure destruction build. However, in certain raid encounters pets tend to die very quickly so the sacrifice build may be better there. Anyway, you should ask Mergpijp about it because he recently started experimenting with these builds after being affliction for a long time. The main downside is that you can't really grind with these builds, so if you do that a lot outside of raids it would be something to keep in mind. Affliction is probably also better for pvp than these builds are. But for pure PvE dps I think both builds are a lot stronger than affliction, except in some extremely long boss fights. But overall, they would deal more damage. |

| The 0/40/21 build, would give you 10% crit chance extra on destruction spells, and a good bit of extra damage, as long as your pet is active, and when your pet is almost dead, you can still sac it for 15% extra shadow damage if you were using your succy, which IIRC gives you the most extra damage anyway. The 0/21/40 build, (I think), would give you 15% fire or shadow damage when you sac your imp or succy, 2% less spell crit but there's no pet to worry about, which helps. This build is better with fire spell damage, spell crit % isn't as important if you do use fire because there's no improved incinerate I no longer use Affliction for grinding so for any additional info, ask Mergpijp.

My current spec (0/40/21) is pretty nice for raiding, although warlock pets, who have relatively low HP combined with Soul Link is a bit of a problem, especially on fights like Maiden, where 1 holy fire/repentance will kill her. But it is a nice spec for PvP because of Soul Link and Master Demonologist, giving me 70 to all resists when I use my felhunter. Warlock pets are however fairly easy to kill, so either a heavy destru or affliction build is better, to not rely on your pet being alive as much. Affliction is by far the best solo grind spec, but lower in raid DPS. That or I was playing it wrong, I'm also not sure how well it performs in a PvP environment. You should also understand that some talents are good for raiding but not so much for PvP or the other way around. Talents like Demonic Embrace, nice for PvP , not important for PvE; Suppression, very nice for raiding as an affliction lock, not needed for PvP where the +hit cap is 3 or 4%; Curse of Exhaustion, nice for PvP, not really for PvE, raiding especially.
Having said this, you should take a look at the raiding builds I posted and a look at the warlock forums for builds that other people use. |
